THE AQUAZEST

PRE-PACKED CHILLER & DUAL HEATING HEAT PUMPS

There are THREE application Models

All AQUAZEST units are liquid-to-liquid heat pumps, and are generally intended for use as chillers.

The cost of heating hot water can be eliminated if electricity, diesel or coal is the current energy source. The series AQ-H and series AQ-D AQUAZEST are designed for chilling systems where constant temperature hot water (or hot fluid) is required at or below 60 degrees C. They can be plugged into and existing system.

DUAL CONDENSOR units (series AQ-D) are suited to applications where the hot water energy re-quirements are small in relation to the chilling function. Excess heat is rejected automatically via a water/fluid coil, suitable for cooling tower applications.

Series AQ-C are chillers intended for normal cooling tower situations.

PRE-PACKED

The AQUAZEST is a self-contained, pre-wired, compact chiller unit, complete with pumps and controls. It can be plugged into any chiller system with ease. There is no need for new tanks and new water feeds.

WORLD FIRST FOR TEKNIHEAT

There’s nothing new about heat pumps. But never be-fore has the technology of heat transfer been so effectively applied. The AQUAZEST is the first commercially available system that can provide the end product – hot water – at the temperature the user requires, while simultaneously producing chilled air-conditioning water (or solid ice), without additional energy input or any strain on the refrigeration compressor.

The by-product of AQUAZEST system can be constant temperature 60C hot water, which may be used for domestic hot water purposes.

EASY INSTALLATION

The AQUAZEST is a self-contained, compact unit and it can be plugged into any existing system with ease. There is no need for new tanks and new water feeds.

MAINTENANCE

The AQUAZEST is sealed and trouble free. It is also FAIL-SAFE. It is equipped with automatic fault-finding light indicators and in the unlikely event of a malfunction, the problem will show up instantly and clearly.

THE PRINCIPLE OF THE RECALORANT WATER HEATER

A refrigerator is designed to extract heat from an enclosed space.

The energy removed is discarded as warmth at the back.A recalorant heater is the reverse but BOTH ‘ends’ are fully utilisable. It takes ambient air or cool water and extracts the heat energy from it. This heat energy is absorbed by the machine and is transferred at a high temperature to a hot water storage vessel.

The only components in the system that use energy are the compressor and the fan.

The System and how it works

The series AZ-D AQUAZEST is coupled directly across the inlet and outlet of the hot water tank. The water connections to the unit are of a small diameter compared with the system pipes. Typically, the water-pipe connections to the AQUAZEST are less than 28mm diameter.

Three sensing probes are placed in the storage vessel. T1 is situated just above the cold water mains inlet, T2 just below the level of the standby heater (if applicable) and T3 is situated just above the level of the standby heater but not directly above the element itself (if applicable).

These three thermostats control the whole hot water system.

When the hot water level at T2 is cold, the AQUAZEST runs, and pumps the cold water from the bottom of the storage vessel to the discharge line via its own circulating pump. This process continues until temperature T1 registers warm water. When this happens the AQUAZEST switches off automatically.

In the unlikely event of a fault occurring, the AQUAZEST will automatically switch over to standby whether this be a diesel, gas or electric system. Thermostat T3 then takes over and controls the final temperature of the water storage vessel in the normal manner. The AQUAZEST will supply a 220V AC output on two terminals which will sound an alarm or bring on a light in the event of a malfunction, but at no time will the system lose its hot water supply.

In applications where the system may not be used for a few days, auxiliary heaters may be fitted in the storage vessel. These would be automatically controlled by the AQUAZEST. These auxiliary heaters would be situated above the level of T2. The heaters would automatically heat the water sufficiently to replace the radiation losses if required. This element would be relatively small in capacity and is interlocked so that it would not be able to come into operation while the AQUAZEST is running.

CHILLED WATER

Chilled water is produced whenever either the hot water or chilled water system requires replenishment. Should the hot water be satisfied, the AQ-D series machine will automatically switch to the cooling tower condensor.

The chilled water cycle is started when remote thermostats T1c and T2c agree that the air-conditioned chilled water return is warm (OR the level of ICE has fallen) and the leaving temperature is higher than nominal. The cycle is naturally stopped once both return and outgoing streams are too cool (OR the level of ICE is at a maximum.

TYPICAL SPECIFICATION

Furnish and install where shown on the drawings, TEKNIHEAT type AQUAZEST water/water heat pumps or equal. The appropriate series AQ-C, AQ-H, or AG-D, will be selected where applicable.

HEAT PUMPS

All switches, control lights and monitoring points shall be installed in one box in each machine.

The hot water temperature leaving the heat pump shall be constant and shll be controlled at 60 deg C with a fluctuation tolerance of plus/minus 1 deg C. The refrigerant shall be R22 (or R502) and the maximum condensing temperature of the compressor shall not exceed 55 deg C.

Heat pumps shall be coupled in such a way that they shall not stop and start intermittently and shall not run for less than 30min at a time.

Units shall be standard pre-wired, pre-charged, packaged units, ready for “plug in” applications.

A manual reset head pressure control shall be fitted in the box mentioned above.

Each heat pump shall be protected against loss of refrigerant and subsequent damage.

Each heat pump shall provide a 220V set of contacts in the event of any fault occurring internally.

In addition to the above specification, it may be required that each heat pump shall be internally wired via a terminal strip to provide:

  • Remote switching of individual compressor circuits (on/off)
  • Remote fault alarming of individual compressor circuits
  • Remote monitoring of units (hot & cold temperatures)
  • HEAT PUMP CONSTRUCTION

Unit casings shall be constructed in stainless steel. Condensate drip trays shall be made of fibreglass and condensers shall be constructed from copper or equal considering the operation conditions.

Ambient temperatures of up to 40 deg C shall not adversely affect heat pump operation.
